New Leaf

So it's been a while since the last post, again, but once again lots have been going on... If you're interested, read on...

"When we last left or hero, he was living in Ohio as a textbook manager, in love with the not so perfect girl and preparing to run his own store for Nebraska Book Company. We now find him living in Stillwater, Oklahoma managing Cowboy Book, the off-campus bookstore for Oklahoma State University. He is single, dealing with the absolute loneliness involved with being over 800 miles away from home, and is relatively successful."

Ok, so that's the short and skinny of it. After going to Akron to help out the bookstore there I returned to Ohio for a week and was offered a job in Oklahoma. I had to put that decision on hold as I was headed to Penn State to run the textbook department at a store NBC has there. While at Penn State I was told I had to make a decision on the store in Oklahoma. It was a huge decision that has ultimately led me to a place that I know I can begin anew but it has also left me in a position of utter loneliness and depression. I had many different things on my plate in August. I had the opportunity to stay at Penn State and run a textbook Department for a campus with a student body of 42,000. I was considered for the top store in our company in Athens, Ohio serving Ohio University. And I was offered the Store Manager position at Cowboy Book.

I know that all of the choices I was posed with would have ultimately led to different outcomes. The Athens gig was taken off the table for which was probably for the better. And I had already committed to Oklahoma when the Penn State offer came through and sounded better. I like to think that if I were able to go back and take the Penn State gig I would still be with my special someone and would be happier with the location I was in. Even if we hadn't stayed together I would be in a different place in life with that college.

Stillwater, Oklahoma is a small city located an hour west of Tulsa and an hour north of OKC, "the City" as it's referred to here. It houses OSU(note my irony), Oklahoma State University, the Cowboys. Their mascot is Pistol Pete, a gruff gun toting cowboy who has roots in real history. OSU has a successful Big 12 football team and a nationally ranked Wrestling team. OSU's campus houses the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, historic Gallagher-Iba Arena (the snake pit), and Boone Pickens Stadium. Eskimo Joe's, a local bar/eatery, is also located in Stillwater. Eskimo Joe's is one of the Three Amigos which include Mexico Joe's and Joseppi's They have gained national recognition and their t-shirts are among the most collected in the nation and even worldwide.

With all that said I am enjoying the time I am spending in Stillwater. I have met friends and enjoy going out and enjoying the social scene. My store is extremely successful and I am doing a good job managing it. Although I still feel that if I had made a different decision about my future I would be much happier. But, as the say, hindsight is 20/20.

With this, my new leaf is overturned. I will be happy, successful and there will be better times on my horizon. Look for more updates in the coming future from the great dust bowl that is Oklahoma.

(i apologize for all the Wiki sites but they were the easiest way to convey what things are like here)
